WHO IS YVAN BOURGNON?
Yvan Bourgnon is a swiss skipper. He did the world tour in a non-habitable sport Catamaran from October 2013 to June 2015 without any assistance and GPS. He's the founder and president of The SeaCleaners association. During an interview for a french TV channel, he said: "In 2050, we will have three times as much plastic in the oceans as today, we can see that it is a disaster".
The SeaCleaners is an association created in 2015. They intended to build the Manta, a 70 meters long catamaran, to collect plastic waste at sea and along the coast. They have raised 15 million euros but they still need another identical sum to officially start building the catamaran. They hope to be able to use the Manta from 2024 and start collecting waste mainly in Asia, Africa, and South America.
